On the other hand, capturing that action for Let's Play movies or Twitch streams is a bit more difficult. If you want to record video at a resolution of 4K and 60 frames per second on your gaming console, you will either need a desktop computer that has a free PCIe card slot for a capture card or you will need to be willing to spend approximately $400 on an external USB capture device that is capable of recording at 4K and 60 frames per second.

With its product with an unusual moniker, the HD60 X, Elgato achieves a satisfying middle ground. As its name suggests, it is capable of capturing video in 1080p at a rate of 60 frames per second. Nevertheless, it is also capable of recording 4K video at a frame rate of 30 frames per second. You will have to decide whether you place a higher value on the video's frame rate or its resolution, but in any case, it will perform admirably. Be aware, however, that you will need to make use of third-party capture or streaming software because the Elgato capture program itself experienced some difficulties during testing.

Elgato's most recent capture card, the HD60 X, is designed to make streaming and recording a little more approachable for gamers that have a contemporary gaming display that is at least passable. This device has a little bit more to offer gamers who have screens with a high pixel count thanks to its support for 4K passthrough, which is an option. However, if you make use of technologies such as G-Sync or FreeSync, which both get timely support on the new HD60 X, it will also come in rather handy for you.

Elgato HD60 X External Capture Card, Elgato just got back to me with an updated beta firmware for the HD60 X. And said that it will cure a passthrough issue that I had been experiencing with my monitor. Passthrough now works as intended with the latest firmware. Even at 4K with VRR enabled, as I am now able to validate. That the issue has in fact been fixed and that passthrough now functions as intended.

The HD60 X appears to have more square corners than the HD60 S+. Which has rounded edges. But it is not quite as much of a square block as the 4K HD60 S+. It is a matte black plastic rectangle with pinched edges that gives it a flat hexagonal front appearance. The dimensions of the rectangle are 2.8 inches by 4.4 inches by 0.7 inches (HWD). The back panel features an HDMI input for the connected console. An HDMI output for your TV or monitor, and a USB-C connector for connecting to your computer. The front panel has a 3.5mm audio socket that may be used for a headset or microphone. The package comes with both an HDMI cable and a USB-A to USB-C cable for your convenience.

High Resolution or High Frame Rate

The Elgato HD60 X is capable of recording video at four different resolutions. And frame rates, including 4K (3,840 by 2,160) at 30 frames per second. 1440p (2,560 by 1,440) at 60 frames per second, and 1080p (1,920 by 1,080) at 60 frames per second. Additionally, there are choices with a lower resolution. With support for high dynamic range (HDR) and variable frame rate. The capture device can send video to a TV or monitor. That is attached to it at 4K/60 frames per second. 1440p/120 frames per second, or 1080p/240 frames per second (VRR)

In order to use the Elgato HD60 X, you will need a personal computer. That has a central processing unit (CPU) of at least the 6th generation. From either AMD Ryzen 7 or Intel Core i5. A graphics processing unit (GPU) from either AMD Radeon RX 480 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 10xx. 4GB of RAM, and a USB 3.0 port. Because it will only work with unencrypted HDMI transmissions. Any gaming system that supports it will need to have HDCP disabled.

The collected footage turned out to be completely consistent with the forecast. We used OBS Studio to record gameplay of Halo Infinite on the Xbox Series X. And Elden Ring on the PlayStation 5. Both the 4K video at 30 frames per second. And the 1080p video at 60 frames per second had a consistent and crisp appearance. However the 1080p video appeared smoother to the naked eye. If you want to record in 4K at 60 frames per second. You should either use a desktop computer. With an open PCIe slot for a capture card or be prepared to pay at least twice as much on a USB device.

A Flexible Game Capture Tool

The Elgato HD60 X is capable of capturing video in either 1080p at 60 frames per second. Or 4K at 30 frames per second. It captures the same stream at a reduced frame rate or resolution of your choosing. While simultaneously sending a signal that is lag-free, HDR-enhanced, 4K/60 frames per second. And supports VRR to your television. We were not satisfied with Elgato’s own capture software. But the gear performed flawlessly when used with OBS Studio. The HD60 X is an appealing piece of hardware that can be purchased for $200. It gives users the option to record or stream a variety of media. Depending on whether the content in question is better suited for smooth movement or fine detail.

If you want to record video in 4K at 60 frames per second. You will need to shell out additional cash. Elgato’s 4K60 S+, which costs $399.99, is designed to record video at that quality and frame rate via a USB connection. Whereas the company’s 4K60 Pro Mk. 2 PCIe card. Which costs $249.99, enables your personal computer to accomplish so (if you have a tower and a free slot). However, neither of the devices has been examined by our team just yet.

When it comes to desktop and portable applications, there is an overwhelming number of choices with bewildering lists of specifications. But in many cases, all you really want is a straightforward, no-frills device that is fast enough, durable enough, allows for basic file management and is reasonably priced.

Photographers and videographers will like the Canvio Flex portable hard drives from Toshiba, which are branded under the company's name. Despite the fact that they are still based on a disk drive with moving parts rather than a solid state drive (SSD), which many professionals prefer due to the inherent durability and higher speeds of SSDs. SSDs, on the other hand, are still prohibitively expensive when compared to hard drives (usually by a factor of four to five), and the 4TB capacity Canvio Flex is still available for less than $100. It also comes in smaller capacities of 1TB ($55) and 2TB ($70), both of which are covered by a three-year warranty.

The other advantages are the small physical size and light weight, as well as the reasonable data transfer rates and the inclusion of both USB-C and USB-A cables to accommodate all of the potential transfer alternatives you may require. When it comes to moving files across devices such as a laptop, tablet, or smartphone, USB-C is unquestionably convenient. The Flex drives are compatible with devices running Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, Android, and Chrome. There are no drivers required for these devices because they are SATA 3 devices that transport data over USB.

Toshiba Canvio Flex portable hard drive was the only one of the portable hard drives. They evaluated that delivered consistently rapid performance across a wide range of tasks. It’s exactly as light and tiny as rival models. Allowing you to take it with you while you’re not working at your computer. And it’s still one of the most reasonably priced drives. You looked at for a disk with this much storage. Both Windows and Mac PCs may be used with it right out of the box. And it comes with both USB-C and USB-A cables. As well as a three-year warranty on the device itself.

Portable external storage devices (PESDs) are currently undergoing an exciting time of transition. With the rise of cloud storage and the increasing affordability of flash storage technologies. Such as MicroSD and SSD technology. The modest external hard disk drive (HDD) is becoming increasingly rare.

It probably reached the limit of physical disk performance. But the read/write rates are still outstanding, and the formatting is flawless. Toshiba’s Canvio Flex portable storage solution is one of the best value portable storage options. It is available on the market right now because to its competitive pricing.

The Canvio Flex is a portable hard drive that, as its name suggests. Is designed to provide you the flexibility to access, save, and transfer data. Between mobile devices and tablets for cross-platform interoperability with other devices. In other words, you can use it with your PCs, Mac computers, iOS and Android devices. And there will be no problems with compatibility.

More About Toshiba Canvio Flex

It can be a significant nuisance to transfer data from one device to another. For people (such as this writer) who use a MacBook Pro. As their primary work machine, an Android phone on a daily basis. A Windows PC for gaming, and a PlayStation 4 as their home media center. While the Canvio Flex did not make the process particularly simple during our tests. It did so in a very basic manner.

When transferring around 10GB of assorted.mkv and.mp4 files. From the Windows PC to the MacBook Pro for playing on the PlayStation 4. The average write speed for the HDD format was approximately 150MB/s. In terms of speed, this was really quick for the HDD format. And it was extremely amazing for the HDD format.

When the Canvio Flex was connected to a new device for the first time. It had an interesting tendency to recognize the drive and then lose connection. With it instantly. This was the one and only time I came upon an anomaly. It was only after performing a simple hard reset (unplugging and plugging the computer back in). That you realized the issue was simply a side effect of the automated driver installation process.

Because they are such a lovely combination of use and function, they transform the mundane and cluttered world of storage into something elegant and orderly, almost as if they were grown in a Stockholm apartment.

Contrary to popular belief, they are not. It is rather a Scottish mind that gave birth to them; it is the mind of Neil Poulton, whose name can be heard clearly on the Ruggeds, in case you were wondering. However, whilst the majority of the drives change frequently, the Rugged's have changed little, at least until recently.

What began as a means of differentiation has evolved into something genuinely diverse. In addition to traditional Ruggeds that include a standard USB port and a few memory cards' worth of storage, newer models include RAID Ruggeds and SSD Ruggeds, as well as high-capacity USB-C Rugged models.

Basically, if tough protection is a must in your drive selection, they have you covered there too. One of the most recent is this Rugged 5TB USB-C edition, which I've abused over three continents, including being pulled, dropped, and left in sand, rain, and scorching tarmac next to equally scorching fighter aircraft.

LaCie Rugged USB-C, this specific edition of the Rugged series has a very broad variety of connectivity options. That are rather general in nature. This is a very popular edition of the Rugged series. For those of you who are Mac users and have a laptop. Or iMac that supports Thunderbolt 2 connections. The drive comes with a built-in Thunderbolt 2 connector. Which eliminates the need to remember to bring a separate cable with you at all times.

If you have a Thunderbolt 3 equipped Mac (or PC), you can connect the device. To your Thunderbolt 3 port using the included USB-C cable. As USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 are both types of connection. That are compatible with each other. Despite the fact that it is not built into the drive. Such as the Thunderbolt 2 cable, it is included in the package.

A Thunderbolt 3 drive is not required for the Rugged Thunderbolt/USB-C drive to perform effectively. However, if the drive is not Thunderbolt 3, it will not function properly. Considering that Thunderbolt 2 and USB-C are already more than capable of delivering. The maximum speed of the mechanical drive. Installing a Thunderbolt 3 interface would only increase the cost of the device. While adding no benefit to the user experience.

More Features of LaCie Rugged USB-C

If your computer has USB-C ports, you can connect using the provided orange USB-C cable. Or if your computer supports prior protocols such as USB 3. You can connect using the included USB-C -> USB-A cable. As a result, since the bandwidth of USB 3 is also fast enough. To handle the maximum speed of a mechanical hard drive. There will be no speed advantages to using one connection type over another. Instead, it will simply provide you with a plethora of options to fit in with whatever system you’re using.

For the most part, you can connect this to a computer. That has one of the following connection types. Using only the components that come with it: In addition to Thunderbolt 1 and 2. While Thunderbolt 3 and USB 2 (type A), USB 3 (type A), and USB 3 (Type C), USB 3.1. It is also supported (Type C). All of these options are useful since I don’t believe you will be able. To locate a computer created in the recent 10 years. That does not have at least one of these connections.

While all of these connection choices will provide almost comparable performance. It is advantageous to have them available so that they may be readily incorporated . Into a system that has a large number of additional peripherals. Or into another person’s system while working together and exchanging data.

It demonstrates that an external storage device can be as small as a high-capacity power bank or a stack of credit cards in terms of physical size.

It's so similar in size to far more expensive solid-state storage devices, such as Kingston's DataTraveler Ultimate GT USB drive, that you could easily sneak it into your shirt pocket and no one would notice the difference. Considering it also comes with a 10Gbps USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 port, which means it is capable of delivering twice the highest theoretical transfer rate of its predecessors, you have a device that packs a significant amount of grunt.

It costs little more than £376 ($510) on Amazon for the 1TB variant, which represents a 20 percent premium over the previous T3 model. Is this significant increase in price justified? That's exactly what we're here to discover.

The 2TB Samsung Portable SSD T5 ($799.99) deviates from the 2.5-inch form factor of their predecessors, which were portable hard drives. Because SSDs do not require the use of a rotating platter, they are significantly smaller and easier to fit into a small pocket or purse. While our 2-terabyte test drive may be out of reach for those who just wish to back up information from their laptop, its speed and size are ideal for digital packrats and graphics pros with a large budget.

SAMSUNG T5 Portable SSD, with dimensions of 0.4 by 2.3 by 3.0 inches (HWD) and a weight of 1.8 ounces. The Samsung Portable SSD T5 is just noticeably heavier than its predecessor. This Samsung Portable SSD T3. Each capacity is available in a monochromatic black finish on the 1TB ($399.99). And 2TB ($499.99) models, while the capacities of 250GB ($129.99). Or 500GB ($199.99) are available in a blue finish.

In comparison to the smaller, gold Adata SE730 External SSD. And the relatively plain-looking OWC Envoy Pro EX. Which has a longer length but otherwise identical proportions. The Adata SE730 is far more muted in appearance.

Compared to the G-Technology G-Drive Slim SSD, which is a traditional-sized drive. All three of these drives will fit into a pocket far more readily (0.39 by 5.08 by 3.23 inches). The T5’s case is made of aluminum, and it has no moving parts. It is designed to withstand a fall of up to 6.6 feet in height.

A USB-C port is used to connect to the drive, making it compatible with the G-Drive Slim. Adata SE730, and our current top selection, the Sandisk Extreme 900. (the Envoy Pro EX uses a legacy micro USB 3.0 port.) Similarly to the Extreme 900 and G-Drive Slim. The T5 SSD is equipped with both USB Type Type C to Type C. And USB Type C to USB 3.0 connectors. Allowing it to be used with nearly all laptops and desktop computers. It is worth noting that the prior Samsung Portable T3 SSD. With Adata SE730 do not include USB-C connectors.

Good Per-Gig Value of SAMSUNG T5

The 2TB version of the T5 SSD comes out to 39 cents per gigabyte. Which is appropriate when compared to the higher per-gigabyte ratio. Which of 52 cents for the Sandisk Extreme 900. That is more expensive. Despite the fact that the G-Drive Slim is comparable in price at 38 cents per GB. Their current SSD co-champion, the Oyen Digital MiniPro 3.1 USB-C Portable Solid-State Drive. Offers the finest price/quality relationship in the industry. (29 cents per gigabyte at a 1TB capacity).

True, the MiniPro 3.1 is physically larger, more equivalent to a desktop drive. Than the smaller SE730, T3, and T5. However, the MiniPro 3.1 is also more expensive. Paying a few dollars more for the T5’s smaller case is well worth it. Especially when you consider that it is $50 less expensive. Than the T3 with the same storage space.

The amount of software available is limited. Only the Samsung Portable SSD software utility. It is included with the drive, and it is responsible for activating. And managing the drive’s built-in AES 256-bit encryption through the use of a password. The encryption program is compatible with Android tablets and phones. As well as Mac computers and Windows PCs.

ExFAT formatted, the T5 SSD is ready to use right out of the box. With all three operating systems, including Windows. Samsung provides a three-year guarantee on the drive. Which is standard for this class of portable SSDs. There isn’t much that can go wrong. Because there aren’t any moving parts in the system.

The Samsung Portable SSD T7 (starting at $109.99 for 500GB; $369.99 for the 2TB version tested) saves you money by not including a fingerprint reader, and it's available in a variety of colors to match your personal preference.

A small, portable storage device with respectable performance for its size and price range. While it lacks the convenience of biometric security found on the T7 Touch, its strong password-protected encryption should be more than suitable for protecting your data.

Since solid-state drives (SSDs) generate far more heat than spinning hard drives, a small aluminum enclosure is usually sufficient for heat dissipation, but it can get hot to the touch when used for extended periods of time. Samsung tackles this issue in the T7 by inserting a phase-change layer next to the drive's circuit board, which collects heat and then gradually releases it. It is intended to keep the surface temperature below 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit), and it appears to have accomplished this goal. Even when transferring data weighing up to 300GB, the disk never became uncomfortable to touch.

Samsung SSD T7 is a thin aluminum rectangle with rounded edges that measures 0.3 by 3.3 by 2.2 inches (HWD). Roughly the same length and breadth as a credit card, though significantly thicker. And weighs under 2 ounces. It is made of aluminum and has rounded corners. Gray, blue, and red are some of the available colors.

This external solid-state drive (SSD) is tiny when compared to other portable hard drives. And it’s comparable in size to the smallest external SSDs available. Such as Samsung’s Thunderbolt-based Portable SSD X5, the ADATA SE800. Or the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD.

On one end of the Portable SSD T7, there is a USB Type-C port. With a USB 3.2 Gen 2 connection, you have the ability to transport data. At up to 10Gbps, which is significantly faster than the drive’s real throughput. It is likely that if you have a desktop, laptop, or smart device. That was manufactured within the previous five years or so with a USB 3.x or Thunderbolt 3 connection. The Samsung will be compatible, if not necessarily at optimal performance. A small status light is located next to the connector. And it glows blue when the drive is connected and blinks . When a data transfer is in progress.

Other Features of Samsung SSD T7

A USB-C cable from Samsung, as well as a Type-C to A cable from the same manufacturer. These are both included in the box with the device. You won’t need to acquire an adaptor or dongle if you’re connecting the device. To a rectangular USB Type-A port on your computer. As a result of this latter capability, which is a helpful feature. Even though some external SSDs, such as the WD My Passport SSD, come with an adapter. Most users prefer to use a cable rather than an adapter. Because adapters are small and easily misplaced in a backpack or pocket. And cables are much more durable.

Currently, the 2TB version of the drive we tested costs $369.99. Which corresponds to 18.5 cents per gigabyte (before a limited-time discount of $279.99. It is applied at the time of this writing). Alternatively, a 1TB disk may be purchased for $189.99. And a 500GB disk can be purchased for $109.99, respectively.

For an SSD with PCI Express-based internals, these prices are competitive. The 500GB Samsung Portable SSD T7 Touch costs approximately 26 cents per gigabyte. While the 500GB WD My Passport costs approximately 24 cents per gigabyte.

Software and Security

The T7 is preformatted in exFAT, thus it should function with Windows, macOS. And Android without user intervention. I tested the app on a Dell XPS 13. With Windows 10.

To set a password, you’ll need the Samsung Portable SSD program. The Android app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. On devices running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or later. The T7 features AES 256-bit hardware encryption with a secure password.

The T7 is drop-resistant up to 6.5 feet. It has no formal ingress protection (IP) certification,. Therefore it is not resistant to water or dust. The WD My Passport SSD’s durability attributes are identical. This WD drive, like the more ruggedized SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD. It comes with a five-year warranty, but the Samsung only gets three. Drives can be replaced, but data cannot, so always keep a backup.

SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD – Up to 1050MB/s – USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2 – External Solid State Drive – SDSSDE61-1T00-G25 https://shoppingfinder.net/shop/computers-and-accessories/external-components/sandisk-1tb-extreme-portable-ssd-up-to-1050mb-s-usb-c-usb-3-2-gen-2-external-solid-state-drive-sdssde61-1t00-g25/ https://shoppingfinder.net/shop/computers-and-accessories/external-components/sandisk-1tb-extreme-portable-ssd-up-to-1050mb-s-usb-c-usb-3-2-gen-2-external-solid-state-drive-sdssde61-1t00-g25/#respond Fri, 21 Jan 2022 09:40:40 +0000 https://shoppingfinder.net/?post_type=product&p=3311 We found that the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 (beginning at $119.99 for 500GB and $199.99 for 1TB as tested), the company's latest addition to its line of rugged external SSDs, is both faster and more cost-effective than the company's first-generation model (the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD).

While the USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface from SanDisk is still in its infancy, its uniqueness lies in the fact that it does not require you to replace or upgrade your computer in order to take use of its maximum speeds. Additionally, the Extreme V2 provides password protection as well as 256-bit AES hardware-based encryption. It also comes with a five-year manufacturer's warranty and is built to endure a great deal of abuse.

It is simple to attach this small drive to your belt or backpack using the carabiner ring on the rear of the device, making it ideal for transferring data around with you on the go. The SanDisk Extreme V2 is an excellent digital companion for anyone who needs to save or retrieve large volumes of data in a short period of time.  It is recommended for anyone who needs to save or retrieve large amounts of data in a short period of time.

SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD weighs only 1.8 ounces and measures 0.4 by 2.1 by 4 inches. Making it slightly smaller than its Extreme Pro V2 sister in terms of weight and size. But otherwise quite comparable in terms of shape and color scheme. It has the exact same appearance as the previous-generation SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD. A small black slab with rounded corners and beveled sides. As well as an orange-rimmed carabiner loop in one corner of the device. A USB Type-C port is located on one of the short sides, though it is skewed to the side.

Extreme V2 has some toughness credentials, having been tested to resist drops. From a height of up to 6.5 feet. This is achieved by the use of an aluminum frame protected by a silicone rubber covering. Its ingress protection (IP) rating of IP55 indicates. That it offers some protection against sand and water ingression. It’s still susceptible to fine particles. And you wouldn’t want to leave it submerged in water. Over an extended period of time.

If you’re looking for something a little more tough, the ADATA SE800 raises the bar. A notch with an IP68 rating, which is the highest of any consumer-grade external SSD we’ve tested. It has been demonstrated to be impervious to dust and water. And it can withstand a submersion in water with the assistance of a rubberized port cover. That is permanently linked to the drive. So that it does not become separated from it. The Extreme V2 does not have a port cover. Which is common among external SSDs.

Hardware and performance of SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD

Additionally, in addition to the Type-C to Type-C converter that comes with the device. The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is equipped with a USB 3.1 (Gen 2) connector. That allows it to transport data at up to 550MBps. Which is a fraction faster than when using the Type-A adaptor that comes with it.

In this case, a plastic band connecting it to the main cable would be useful. SanDisk may want to keep this in mind for the next iteration of the drive.

Exception: the Type-C connector, rather than the Type-A connector. This was used instead of the Type-A connector. When we ran CrystalDiskMark on this little SanDisk device. It outperformed all other non-Thunderbolt 3 drives we’d tested. Giving nearly 560MBps in read speed and slightly more than 500MBps in write speed. It took 294 seconds to upload a 100GB file. Which corresponds to an average transfer rate of 334MBps, according to the results of the experiment.

Despite the fact that the drive is capable of a maximum data transmission rate of 10Gbps. It will never be able to achieve that level of performance in practice. Due to the inherent limitations of the physical connection.

The Design

Not as small as some of its competitors (such the Samsung T5). The SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD is thin enough at 8.85mm. To fit comfortably in a back pocket. Its 50 x 96.2mm dimensions make it smaller than most contemporary smartphones.

This SanDisk drive has an orange plastic hook at the top-right that can be used. To securely attach it to an item. The drive’s top and bottom surfaces are textured, making handling it easier. (But equally, gives an appearance that could be confused with a cheap Bluetooth speaker).

The drive is water and dust resistant to IP55. Keep it clear of anything that could become stuck in the USB Type-C connector. And prevent you from connecting it to other devices. After any submersion in liquid. Ensure sure it is fully dried and cleaned before using.

The drive can also endure a 2m drop on a concrete floor without severe harm.
