Google Nest Thermostat – Smart Thermostat for Home – Programmable Wifi Thermostat – Snow
Notable is the new thermostat’s use of Google Home. This is the first Nest thermostat to ship without the Nest app, which Google acquired in 2014. When Google aligned its Nest and Google Home brands in 2019, Google effectively “retired” the Nest app for new products.
The new Nest Thermostat from Google has a new app and a new design, but it also costs less: $130. There are plenty of non-smart thermostats available for under $30, but the new Nest trims the price gap and adds tons of extra features. The Nest Thermostat is my favorite affordable smart model.
In addition to white, Google’s new thermostat is available in rose gold, fog, and charcoal (dark gray). It has a 3.3-inch diameter and a 1.1-inch depth. The new Nest Learning Thermostat has the same diameter as the $249 Nest Learning Thermostat, but a narrower profile and weighs much less.
The $169 Nest Thermostat E is no longer available for DIY purchase on Google’s site, but professional installation is available for an additional fee. Learn more here.
The stainless steel ring on the Nest Learning Thermostat gives it the most premium look of the three thermostats. The new Nest Thermostat’s mirrored display also looks great for less than $100. It’s a big step up from the frosted plastic Nest Thermostat E.
The thermostat and mounting hardware are all you get in the box. There’s no longer a tiny Nest screwdriver, nor a trim kit to cover old paint or holes from previous thermostat installations. Google sells matching trim kits for $15. The trim plate isn’t necessary, but it’s nice to have the option. However, it is not compatible with Google’s Nest Temperature Sensor accessory for automating your heat and air conditioning around the ambient temperature in rooms other than the one where your thermostat is installed.
Despite the fact that this is the first Nest thermostat to require the Google Home app out of the box, the experience is similar. You can adjust your thermostat’s settings from anywhere with an internet connection, and you can set up automatic schedules and preferred temperature ranges that adjust when you leave and return home. For me, all of these features worked well, as with previous Nest thermostats.

Google Nest Thermostat is the best way to help you. When you leave the house, this thermostat can save energy. You can control it from your phone while out shopping or in bed. It also looks after your HVAC.
Most 24V heating and cooling systems are compatible with the Google Nest Thermostat. Included are forced air and radiant heat heaters, air conditioners, boilers, and heat pumps. A C wire or the Nest Power Connector is required for several systems. Including heating-only, cooling-only, zone-controlled, and heat pump systems.
Nest thermostats use learning technology to figure out your schedule as well as your heating and cooling preferences. This allows you to save energy and money. It’s simple to set up and connects to your existing home network over WiFi. It allows you to control it from your phone, laptop, or computer. The third version of the Google Nest Learning Thermostat is simpler to see, with a larger display and thinner design. It also has Farsight, which allows for even greater readability from across the room.
With the Works with Nest Initiative, Nest provides even more convenience and functionality. Nest can be used to connect to additional smart devices that are compatible with Nest. When Nest tells smart appliances that you’re away, they can go into energy-saving mode. A smart garage door can tell Nest when you’ve left the house. A smart door lock can tell Nest who’s arrived home and what temperature they prefer. And smart appliances can go into energy-saving mode when Nest tells them that you’re away. With the Google Nest Learning Thermostat, saving money on your energy bill and building a connected home is easier than ever.
